Eton Manor re-register with Ofsted - UPDATE
Eton Manor were due an Ofsted inspection by January 2009. This should have included Rhiya's tragic death, circumstances surrounding how she lost her life and the action notices issued by Ofsted. However, In October 2008 Eton Manor re-registered its company with Ofsted from Casterbridge Care and Education Ltd, to Casterbridge Nurseries Ltd. This re-registration has erased all history prior to Oct 2008, including Rhiya's death. This in effect has "wiped the slate clean" for Eton Manor.
We and many members of the public that have made contact with us since, find this loophole shocking. It has denied all parents the right to be fully informed before making important decisions about childcare. The death of a child within a childcare provision is most certainly a matter that every parent has a right to know about. Ofsted is a governing body that inspects and regulates all childcare settings. We are disgusted that Ofsted permitted this re-registration, particularly with the knowledge that legal proceedings and an inquest are still pending. This shows not only a total lack of respect for our daughter who lost her precious life in the care of her nursery, but to every parent that puts their trust into Ofsted.
Evidence from Ofsted states "The provider's history with Companies House shows numerous changes of name over the last five years and a high number of compliance/investigation/enforcement (CIE) cases".
This matter has been taken to the Director of Ofsted and the Secretary of State for education. It has been recognised that the law does need to be changed to address this very serious issue.
We will not allow our daughters death to be swept under the carpet.
